Eight sixth formers at Trinity Academy have been appointed as leaders of the student body.

Head girl Abbie Tomlinson and head boy Matthew Elwood are pictured with new house captains (left) Elliott Redmile and Charley Thornton (left), James Quean and Emily Hodgson (centre) and Luke Cockburn and Tia Merrell (right).

Abbie’s appointment as head girl follows a family tradition; her great aunt Mary Reid (nee West) was head girl of Thorne Grammar School more than 50 years ago.

Among the young leaders’ responsibilities are hosting the annual prizegiving ceremony and hosting visitors to the academy.

Principal Ian Brew said: “All the young people we have chosen have demonstrated our core values and understand younger students will look up to them and be guided by them.”
