Young entrepreneurs from a Doncaster school enjoyed a day out to Buckingham Palace after winning a technology contest.

Four Year 9 pupils and their teacher from Hayfield School, Auckley, met the Duke of York when he presented them with prizes in the TeenTech Awards 2013 during a palace reception.

Simon Palmer, Megan Holmes, Jack Lifsey and Ryan Edlin won the communication category of the competition with their model of a 3D holographic projector which could be used in schools, the medical profession, the military and in industry.

As well as meeting Prince Andrew, they each won laptops and headphones.

Design technology teacher Lisa Wyld said: “They were brilliant. They presented the concept to Prince Andrew really confidently and did absolutely fantastically well.

“It was an amazing experience for them – they coped with it better than I did.”
