An innovative science and technology event for school students, sponsored by St. Leger Homes, was held at Doncaster Racecourse.
TeenTech South Yorkshire gave the students an exciting introduction to the career opportunities that are available if they study Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths at GCSE and A- Level.
The event featured fun exhibits and practical challenges for the young people to get involved in, all run with the help of South Yorkshire’s leading engineering, technology and construction companies. Around 300 students aged 12-13, from schools in Doncaster and across South Yorkshire took part in the event.
Staff from St Leger Homes were there to guide the young people through the day, offering help and advice during activities, and providing insight into career opportunities in the construction industry.
Chris Smith, of heating company Help-Link, is seen here showing Ellie Chessman of Hayfield School how a heating system works.
Mick Werritt, director of property services, said: “I am delighted to be involved in this project. We run our own apprenticeship programme at St Leger Homes and recognise the importance of getting young people involved and excited in science, technology and engineering.
“I’m pleased we could support the young people at the event and I enjoyed seeing their designs and ideas.”
