A DRAGONS’ Den-style workshop has been held at Dearne Valley College as part of a business and computing event for prospective students.

Youngsters were asked to develop a computer game, create the packaging, advertisements and come up with a multi- media marketing strategy for the game.

Once developed, participants presented their ideas to a panel of “dragons” in order to see whose concept would get the fictional investment to take their idea to market.

The panel consisted of tutors and former student Chris Wright, who set up his own computer solutions business, called IT Desk.

Participants also got to meet tutors and support staff, speak to current full-time students and apply for full-time courses starting in September.

Mark Hepworth, the college’s Information and Advice Officer, said: “Deciding what to do next, and indeed where to continue further study, can often be a difficult decision.

“Our taster session aimed to give prospective students an insight into what college life would be like, whilst getting hands-on experience.”
