A NEW primary school is to be created in Mexborough by combining two existing schools.
The move will see Park Road Infant School merge with Montagu Junior School, from April 1.
Both schools are on the same site and will continue under the new banner of a primary school, for kids aged three to 11.
Doncaster Council’s Cabinet gave their stamp of approval to the plans at their meeting last Wednesday.
A council report supporting the move said such an amalgamation “maximises efficiency, avoids management duplication and enables a core ethos and approach to be developed seamlessly across the primary key stages”.
It added that there may be some remodelling of the current junior school to create a single data system and one main staff room.
Parents were made aware of the proposals before the meeting and no objections were made.
Doncaster Mayor Peter Davies said: “I am delighted there has been no opposition to this plan and we can go ahead confidently knowing we have the support of the people of Mexborough.”
Headteacher John Scatchard said after the meeting: “We will continue to operate in both the buildings, but as one school.
“Pupils who start in the nursery will remain at one school until they are ready for secondary school.”
