A FORMER England rugby player called in at a Wath school, to pass on his tips for achieving success through sport.

Paul Broadbent was the athlete mentor assigned to St Pius RC School by the Youth Sports Trust and a new Sky Sports initiative to get more kids involved in sport.

Teacher Sam Turnell said the day had been very worthwhile, with the message that Paul wanted to get across about key values well received by pupils.

He said: “By seeing and listening to someone with first-hand experience, and by seeing Paul’s videos of his early career, they could relate to what he was saying about sport being linked with success both on and off the sports field.”

Groups enjoyed learning some practical skills based on working as a team. A core year group will now develop basketball with other pupils.
