IT was kids versus the cops at Thurnscoe’s Robert Ogden School – for an annual friendly fight on a football pitch.

This year’s community football match between five members of Goldthorpe Safer Neighbourhood Team and selected students, was something of a nail-biter...

A Robert Ogden spokeswoman said it was a competitive game, with police facing tough opposition from the school side, in a 4-4 draw.

She said: “This was the second community match between pupils and the Goldthorpe police.

“The event celebrates a partnership between the school and the community police, who come in to school on a regular basis to talk to pupils and discuss community issues.”

The Robert Ogden School is the largest specialist school in the UK for children with autism.

Its personal approach is “to allow youngsters to learn according to their own needs”.
