A primary schools new library has been officially opened by a children’s author after a two month refurbishment programme.

The library revamp, at Woodfield Primary School, was carried out by Doncaster’s library service. Nearby Hexthorpe Primary School teacher Phil Sheppard, who is also an acclaimed children’s author, cut the ribbon to declare it open.

Phil manages to combine his role of teacher with that of author having published many books and performed at the Edinburgh Fringe. His current book – Discover Doncaster – is flying off the shelves at local book stores.

Head teacher at Woodfield Primary School, Helen Harrison, said: “Phil came into school and enthralled the Year 6 pupils at Woodfield Primary with a performance. He also presented signed copies of the book to pupils who had given him the best tips about how to improve his skills and he cut the ribbon to declare the new Library open, stocked with his books.”
