COOKERY classes were “benissimo” at the Dearne ALC this week when top local chefs taught students the secrets of Italian cuisine.
Chefs from the Cubley Hall Hotel at Penistone set up their Italian kitchen in the new Goldthorpe school and taught youngsters of all ages the art of making perfect pasta and tasty Italian salads.
Meanwhile, some of the school’s smartest maths brains were put to the test on World Maths Day on March 1.
Year 7 and 8 pupils in the top maths sets were invited to try and solve 100 mathematical puzzles in less than 60 seconds each.
Pupils were also given an on-site history lesson, when 34 students went on a tour of the French and Belgian battlefields and memorials of WWI.
The students were taken to the Tunnellers Memorial at Givenchy where Mexborough’s Victoria Cross hero William Hackett died rescuing a trapped colleague as they tried to plant explosives under the German trenches. The school party laid a wreath with a special message at the site.
