Staff and pupils at a village primary school are celebrating after receiving a ‘good’ rating from Ofsted.

Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School was awarded the second highest rating following a visit from government inspectors.

The school, now an academy, had previously been classed a requiring improvement when it was inspected in 2013.

Principal of the Main Street school, Helen Acton, said: “I am delighted that Ofsted have recognised how good Hatfield Woodhouse Primary school really is, and I am proud of the way all of our staff have worked together in partnership to move children’s learning and development forward.”

Hatfield Woodhouse Primary is run by charity the School Partnership Trust Academies.

Ms Acton added that she was pleased the report highlighted the support the school, which has 201 pupils aged three to 11, received from its sponsor.

Ofsted visited Hatfield Woodhouse Primary over two days last month with inspectors classing the academy as good in all areas, including the achievement of pupils and the quality of teaching.

Report author and lead inspector, Jane Salt said: “Standards have improved since the last inspection and are now above average in reading, writing and mathematics by the end of year six.

“Pupils make good progress and achieve well. Teaching continues to improve as a result of focused support and training.

“These are leading to higher standards and better progress by the end of each key stage.

“There are some specific strengths and developing expertise among the staff.

“The school makes good use of expertise from colleagues in the School Partnership Trust Academies so that improvements are made more rapidly.”

The report adds the school needs to improve standards in reading, writing and maths as well as teaching to be classed as outstanding.
