DEARNE Valley College students joined local MP John Healey to plant a tree to mark Climate Week.
The tree was the first of 30 to have been secured by the college from the Woodland Trust.
They consist of the birch, rowan and cherry varieties and will be planted in the meadow land to the north of the Wath-based campus.
Paul Edwards, head of the college’s estates and retail services, said: “We want to continue the college’s pledge to the Dearne Valley Eco Vision by promoting the importance of investing in green issues.
“Initiatives such as ours are investments into better tomorrows.”
The tree planting was also part of the first- ever International Eco-Festival, hosted at the college, which is part of a drive to secure the Dearne as one of the greenest areas in Europe.
Another 240 trees will arrive later this year to be planted locally.
