THIS was one occasion when footy fans were quite happy to receive a ref’s red card – off the pitch!

Swinton Community School pupils were thrilled to celebrate their fantastic results from last year with one of their heroes – international football referee Howard Webb MBE.

The school’s certificate presentation evening held on January 5 celebrated the best A-level pass rate in Rotherham, along with the best GCSE results the school has ever had.

To mark their ongoing success, Mr Webb handed them all an autographed red and yellow card, after delivering an inspirational speech to everyone who attended.

Students then enjoyed chatting to the local celebrity before taking their certificates and awards home. Among those to receive special commendation for their hard work and effort were Stephen Ullah who received The Mike Kenyon Memorial Award for Services to Geography, and Lauren Scott who was presented with the Sheffield Hallam University Annual Academic Achievement Award.
