University Centre Doncaster has been shortlisted for an international education award.
The college will find out later this month if they have won the British Council International Skills Partnership of the Year Award, in partnership with a fashion and textile college in Morocco called ESITH (Ecole Supérieure des Industries du Textile et Habillement).
The project lasted between 2010-2012 and involved the sharing of best practice, exchanging curriculum ideas and information, student-staff overseas exchanges, and enterprise visits.
University Centre Doncaster sent four fashion students and one staff member to Morocco in February 2012 for a two-week exchange with ESITH.
The students were able to gain first-hand experience of the manufacturing processes and textile production that they would never have been able to witness otherwise, given that this part of the industry tends to be found outside of the UK.
They took this knowledge back with them to Doncaster and were able to finish their studies with a more complete knowledge of their field.
Laura Green, Lecturer in Fashion at the University Centre, and accompanying tutor on the exchange said: “Students are already aware of most of the processes and techniques that were being highlighted at ESITH, yet not to the extent of being able to see the industrial machinery working and producing the end product.”
