DEARNE sports student Dominic Skidmore is right on track... both with his studies, AND a career as a BMX racing rider!

Dominic, 17, is currently studying at Dearne Valley College. He has competed in numerous racing events and has tournaments coming up throughout Europe – splitting his time between racing and studying for the past four years.

The ambitious youngster first represented Britain at the age of 15, and hopes to be a future Olympian.

And his dreams may come true – after he was selected for the Great Britain Olympic Development Squad, allowing him to develop his fitness and technique in the run-up to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

He said: “My immediate aim is to continue my studies at Dearne Valley College and then consider university at a later point. From a racing point of view I would love to compete in the 2016 Games”.

Dominic’s punishing schedule involves training six days a week, with 20 hours at the gym, and practice at the English Institute of Sport at Sheffield.

He also fits in studies on the Level 1 BTEC National in Sport and Leisure course at Dearne Valley College!

Dave Merris, Sport and Physical Recreation Tutor, said: “Studying a sports course will help Dominic with his training; he shows huge enthusiasm towards his studies as well as his racing commitments”.

Dominic is seeking sponsorship to help pay for training expenses, travel and accommodation costs.
