ASPIRING Olympic rower Finn Eden received a visit from his MP to congratulate him on being shortlisted for a top award.

Finn, whose dad Ray died earlier this year aged 42, after being attacked by a neighbour in Scawthorpe, finished as a runner-up in the Ambition AXA Award, which recognises emerging sports talent.

Ed Miliband visited the 13-year-old McAuley School pupil at home in Moat Croft to ask him about his plans.

Finn’s coaches at Doncaster Rowing Club say his determination to succeed helped him come to terms with family tragedy and gave him a focus.

His dad was an international cyclist who missed out on the 1996 Atlanta Olympics after breaking his collarbone.

Luke Jolly, then 24, was jailed in July for four years and nine months after admitting manslaughter. He punched Ray in the face as he tried to calm down an argument between Jolly and his partner.
