If you are ready to chuck some of your child’s old toys in the bin after a Christmas clear-out you might want to hang fire.

And that’s because hundreds of toy enthusiasts gathered in South Yorkshire to buy, sell and simply admire a host of vintage favourites from a bygone age.

The annual Doncaster Toy Fair, held at Doncaster Racecourse, featured more than 350 stalls selling thousands of toys, trains and models.
And the long-forgotten or discarded presents from Christmases past could be the goldmines of the future – as scores of our childhood favourites are now retro collectors’ items.

The event was attended by many of the UK’s leading dealers, with models of cars, lorries and buses available for enthusiasts to drool over.

Trestle tables were also groaning under the weight of Star Wars figures, James Bond memorabilia, Action Man figures and plenty of other collectibles.

Model railways and Lego were also on show with items ranging from just a pound up to hundreds of pounds for the rarest items.

Children looking for toys to play with were joined by adult collectors building collections for investment or pleasure at the event.

The most popular retro toys:

* Original 70s and 80s star Wars figures

* Dapol and Denys Fisher Dr Who characters from the 1970s
