The Notorious Aardvark in Waterdale shut up shop at the end of last week, announcing its demise via its Facebook page.

Store owner Simon Saynor wrote: "So that's it, give or take an hour. The shop is no more.

"We will still be selling on line with over 2000 items listed. Plenty more to add - I'll have time to do that now.

"Thank you to every single person who has shopped at The Notorious Aardvark Record Shop. It's been emotional xxx"

In an earlier post, it was revealed the closure was down to "personal circumstances."

He posted: "It has been a great experience running The Notorious Aardvark but unfortunately due to personal circumstances I am unable to continue, and therefore will be closing down."

The store, which specialised in rare vinyl and opened in November 2014, was at the centre of a crowdfunding appeal last year with a benefit gig staged to raise £500 after a window was broken at the premises.

Dozens of members of the public donated the cash needed to carry out repairs and a benefit concert was also held at Cask Corner pub to help bolster the appeal.

Posting on Facebook after the attack last summer by "mindless idiots" Mr Saynor thanked those who had come to his aid and said: "I am truly overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of so many people.

"Not gonna lie, I've cried a lot. I am truly blessed to have so many wonderful people in my life. "I just want to say thank you all so much. From the bottom of my dodgy heart. Thank you xxxxx"
