A Doncaster sports project, which aims to help adults aged between 25 and 64 to become more active, has been awarded £164,271 by Sport England.

Let’s Get Active will encourage adults in the communities of Askern, Hexthorpe and Clay Lane/Wheatley to become more active, by providing opportunities to take part in sport and physical activity sessions. The activities delivered within this three year project will be community-based and aim to engage with local residents to increase their physical activity levels, get active and have fun.

Work will be targeted to communities which traditionally have fewer adults participating in sport.

A Community Sport Activator will co-ordinate and deliver community-focused sport and physical activities, along with key partners, within three identified communities and support the development of future sports leaders.

Cabinet Member for Tourism and Culture, Coun Bill Mordue, said: “We are delighted to announce that we have been given this funding by Sport England. The benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle are well-known, and sport is also an excellent social activity. I’m very pleased that local people will be able to benefit more and more in the future.”

This project is one of over 40 projects to secure a share in £8.2 million of National Lottery funding from Sport England.
