Doncaster school gets glowing Ofsted report
PUPILS and staff at Rossington Tornedale Infant School are glowing with pride following a top Ofsted report.
Inspectors summed up their feedback to staff by saying: “There is a genuine commitment to making the school outstanding, which is apparent in the staff’s constant efforts to improve.”
The inspectors also acknowledged the school’s work to successfully improve attendance since its last Ofsted inspection.
They recognised that Tornedale works hard to be very inclusive, and that staff work hard to ensure that different groups of pupils in school integrate well together.
They also acknowledged changes in the effectiveness of the Governing body, and felt it was important now to establish those improvements.
As well as making a judgement on the quality of teaching, Ofsted inspectors observed the behaviour of the children in lessons, outside, and in the hall for assembly and lunch.
They also chatted to the children about behaviour in the school. They reported that the children’s behaviour was good and sometimes impeccable.
The inspectors saw that teachers created a positive climate for learning, and recognised that teachers had high expectations of the children and that all groups of children made good progress.
Ofsted described Tornedale School as ‘a happy community in which the pupils thrive because of the committed work of the headteacher and the staff.’
Tornedale’s next challenge is to develop more outstanding teaching, and ensure there is support and guidance for this.
Headteacher Tracey Wild said: “We are a good school that aspires to be outstanding and the Ofsted team recognised this.
“We encourage children to always work hard to achieve the best they can, and that is exactly what inspectors found on their visit. They recognised that children at Tornedale want to learn and happily take part.”
Councillor Eric Tatton-Kelly, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Well done to staff, children, parents and governors at Tornedale for this ‘Good’ Ofsted rating. This is a fantastic achievement for all involved.”
