Your health champions were honoured tonight in a glittering award ceremony at Doncaster racecourse.

Earlier this year the Free Press teamed up with health chiefs to open nominations for the Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Doncaster Free Press Health Awards.

Over the last few weeks our readers have been busy nominating unsung health heroes and voting for their Star of the Year.

And tonight Doncaster’s health stars were recognised for their hard work.

The evening’s host was BBC Look North’s Clare Frisby who said she was delighted to host the awards, and praised all of the nominees who all do ‘an amazing job’.

A total of eleven awards were given out during the course of the evening.

The winners were:

Volunteer of the year award - Maureen Sampson

Unsung heroes and heroines award - Christine Malloch

Best role model award - Claire Rogers

David Eve’s award for the most caring nurse - Belinda Scarrott

David Eve’s award for the most caring non-nurse - Gary Metcalfe

Ellie Eve’s award for cancer after care -Lara Cunnane Reay

Margaret Cox award for quality - Chatsfield Suite
