Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice has received a £1,000 donation from Doncaster’s Amazon warehouse following a fundraising event organised as part of the company’s fifth birthday celebrations.
The local Amazon team was given the opportunity to soak managers in stocks with sponges as part of a lighthearted idea to raise money for the North Anston based hospice.
The fun event raised £500, which has been matched by the Amazon Doncaster charity committee to provide the hospice with a £1,000 donation.
One of the team to put his head in the stocks in the name of charity was Nathan Fetherston, Amazon Doncaster’s site leader.
Speaking after drying himself off, Nathan said: “We wanted to do something fun during our fifth birthday celebrations that would raise money for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
“Our Learning and Development team came up with the idea of soaking the managers with sponges and the teams queued round the block to get involved. We had a great time but, more importantly, raised funds for this fantastic local charity.”
Mandy Rafferty, Corporate Fundraiser at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, said: “It sounds like the team at Amazon had great fun with the stocks and sponges and we’re absolutely thrilled that they’ve raised £1,000 for us.
“We are very grateful for every penny raised for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, as this makes a huge difference to the children and families we support with life shortening conditions and complex medical needs. I’d like to say a big thank you to Nathan and everyone from Amazon in Doncaster, it’s through such great support from corporate and community fundraising activities that we can keep our doors open.”
