DJ to return to the airwaves after gender transition

DJ Stephanie Hirst is returning to the airwaves to front her first show since her gender transition last year.

The DJ, who used to be known as Simon Hirst, previously hosted a breakfast show on Capital FM, which was aired across South Yorkshire.

Stephanie is joining BBC Radio Manchester, where she will host a Saturday night music and chat show.

Managing Editor of BBC Radio Manchester, Kate Squire, said: “It’s fantastic that Stephanie is returning to the airwaves at BBC Radio Manchester – she’s a brilliant broadcaster.

“It’s going to be a fabulous show and I know that our listeners will love her.”

Stephanie started her career in radio at 12 years old, making the tea for DJs at Radio Aire, before bagging her own slot on the station.
