A POPULAR BBC show has stepped in to transform the home of a father-of-six who lost his young wife to cancer.

Paul Makings looks after his children full time following the death of his devoted wife Roxanne aged 27 last June.

His heartbreaking story came to the attention of BBC show DIY SOS and they have spent the week transforming the family home in Fox Covert Lane, Misterton.

Presenter Nick Knowles and his team are due to unveil the revamped home to Paul and his children this morning, who have been living away while the work has been undertaken.

The family was nominated by fellow residents and tradesmen have completed all of the work for free.

Katy Bigley, a researcher for the show, said: “The response from the surrounding areas has been brilliant.

“We are confident the build will make a tremendous difference to the family for the future.”

A fundraiser will take place on Saturday in aid of the Roxi Makings Memorial Fund to pay for a children’s play area in Misterton.

It is being held at Misterton Sports Club and local band The Torn will be performing from 8pm. Tickets are £6.
