motorists experienced travel chaos as police were forced to stop traffic following reports of a man walking along the M18.
The incident happened this morning at 6.35am near Junction 6 of the M18.
Motorists were still been asked to stop over two hours later whilst police dealt with the situation.
A motorist said: “I thought there had been an accident, when they told me a man was walking along the carriageway I couldn’t believe it.”
The pedestrian was not injured in the incident.
A police spokesman said: “Police received a report of a young man, walking down the carriageway of the M18, South bound.
“Acting in the safety of the man and the safety of travelling motorists, officers stopped the traffic for a short time at junction 6, whilst the man was brought of the carriageway to safety.”
