THE football team from Swinton Milton Special School hit the bullseye when darts ace Dean Winstanley offered to sponsor their kit.
Winstanley was touched to hear the school team had been playing in the same kit for nearly two decades and jumped at the chance to help out.
The Swinton-born thrower – known as Over The Top – heard of the school’s plight when handing out awards at the Rotherham and District Ladies Darts League’s presentation night.
He said: “The league has a list of charities they have chosen to support and Milton School stood out to me with it being in Swinton.
“I just had to help out when I heard how long they’d been using that kit and I offered to bump up the donation so they could afford a new one.”
Last weekend Winstanley played in his first TV tournament since switching to the Professional Darts Corporation earlier this year.
The 31-year-old former BDO World Championship finalist has rapidly climbed the world ranking since his switch.
He was defeated 7–5 by Martin Adams in the 2011 BDO World Championship Final.
Winstanley, who turned professional in 2008, is one of only a small number of top level players to have reached the final in his first appearance at the tournament.
