Crisis of Isle’s abandoned dogs

HOMES are needed urgently for a surge of abandoned dogs, as a rescue kennel struggles to cope with the influx.
Last month the Bells highlighted the kennel crisis as dogs from the Isle and all over North Lincolnshire flooded in to Sangreat sanctuary, that was strained to the hilt by the numbers.
We featured two dogs found shivering in the Isle, that now have new homes, but help is needed urgently to place many more distressed pets.
New owners pay just £48 for a new life companion, but this includes a free microchip and neutering voucher subject to terms and conditions.
Paul Greenfield who runs Sangreat with wife Sally said: “We never put a healthy dog down. Each dog is funded by the council for eight days and then the financial weight falls on us. This is the most stretched we’ve ever been.”
If you could offer a loving home to a grateful stray dog, just waiting to be picked up from the kennels, then contact Sangreat on 01652 652453 or visit the kennels at Scawby Brook from Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm or Sunday 1pm to 4pm.
Paul and Sally would also love to hear from any local rescue homes that would be able to place stray dogs.

Last year alone, North Lincolnshire Council’s dog wardens picked up 441 stray dogs across the county.
By law, all dogs must wear a collar and tag. The tag must have the name and address of the dog’s owner written on it. This ensures that if the dog wardens find a stray dog, they can contact the owner.
If a dog is found and taken to Sangreat Kennels, the council will make a charge (including straying fine) to the owner or their representative when they collect the dog. The kennel will not release the dog until all fees are paid in full.
