A scrap metal company at Wombwell has been fined over £3,400 in total for operating without a permit.
Malcolm Quinn, a director of Gillot Alloys Ltd, of Station Road Industrial Estate, Valley Road, Wombwell, pleaded guilty to the offence at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court on June 6.
The court heard that the firm had no permit to recieve or process waste electronic and electrical equipment but on November 3 last year, items including fridges, freezers, cathode ray tube televisions and washing machines were found at the site by an Environment Agency inspector.
Mr Quinn said his company had operated as they thought they could, but since the inspection they have acquired the correct permit for processing such equipment.
The firm was fined £1,250 and ordered to pay £2,176.07 in costs.
Gillot Alloys Ltd has operated for two years and employs four people. District Judge Foster imposed a victim surcharge of £15.
