A TRACTOR driver has appeared before magistrates charged with causing the death of a motorcyclist by driving without due care and attention.

Daniel Scott Nixon (37), from Rawcliffe, had been riding his motorcycle along the A645 at Eggborough on July 27, this year, when it was in collision with the tractor.

Before Selby magistrates on Thursday was Andrejs Rajevskis, 27, of Jackson Street, Goole, charged with causing the death of Mr Nixon , a former UN peacekeeper, by turning right out of Poskitts Farm on his John Deer tractor into the path of the motorcycle.

Gaynor Zeki, prosecuting, told the court that it was the view of the Crown Prosecution Service that the charge was not suitable for hearing before them and should be committed to the crown court.

Jeremy Coleman, defending Rajevskis who denies the charge, said that he had no observations to make.

The magistrates agreed not to hear the evidence and the case was adjourned until Wednesday, October 26, for the case to be committed to York Crown Court.

Rajevskis, who has already surrendered his passport to the police, was remanded on conditional bail to report to Goole Police Station twice a week.

Mr Nixon, who died at the scene of the collision, was a former member of the Prince of Wales Own Yorkshire Regiment and was posted to Bosnia fome 1991 - 1993 during the break-up of the former Yugoslavia. He was also posted to Germany and Northern Ireland.

On leaving the Army, he settled in Rawcliffe and set up his own landscape gardening company.

He leaves behind his parents, three younger brothers, a five year-old daughter and three stepchildren.
