COUNCILLORS have agreed a proposal to bring in a ban to stop drinking on the streets in an area of Doncaster.
A report was put together and presented at Doncaster Council’s cabinet meeting appealing for members to agree to a Designated Public Place Order (DPPO) for Wheatley following a spate of drink-related anti-social behaviour.
A DPPO means that authorities, such as the council, can designate places where people cannot drink alcohol and gives additional powers to police to be able to fines and prosecute offenders.
DPPOs have already been brought in across number of areas including as Armthorpe, Kirk Sandall, Balby, Hexthorpe, Rossington, Stainforth and the town centre.
A council spokesman said the cabinet agreed to the DPPO and that the plans would be discussed at full council.
