Police are tracing illegal scrap metal merchants who have been targeting households in Mexborough.
Residents at a public meeting in the town told how two vehicles have been seen operating in the area in the last month.
Two men had allegedly been seen stealing items from gardens and loading them into the back of the vehicles.
One resident told the Partners And Communities Together meeting in Mexborough Resource Centre last Thursday that he had spotted them numerous times.
He said: “There is a white van and a blue pick up truck picking items up from peoples gardens and selling them on for scrap.”
Inspector Ray Mountford, of the Doncaster West Safer Neighbourhood Team, urged residents to report any incidents to police.
He said: “The next time anyone sees these operating suspiciously please ring us and say they are on the estate now and try to get their registration number.”
Insp Mountford added there has also been a number of incidents where yobs have thrown stones at buses in Mexborough.
He said: “There will be an operation soon where we send in a ‘Trojan bus’.
It will have plain clothes officers on board and they can then catch anyone quickly who tries to damage the bus.”
