FIVE Thurnscoe men have been arrested in connection with the theft of cable from a railway line.

The men, aged 21, 29, 30, 31 and 37, were picked up when officers swooped on their home addresses in a pre-planned operation.

Their arrests were in connection with the theft of cable from a railway line near to Knottingley station in Wakefield on September 29, that resulted in major disruption to rail services and misery to thousands of people.

All five men have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Network Rail is offering a reward of up to £1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any cable thieves. Anyone with information can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40.
