Two robbers who beat up a Mexborough pensioner in his home may never be caught after police shut down their investigation of the incident.

Former school governor Jeff Wademan, 80, told this week how he is still mentally plagued by the ordeal three months since the horrific incident.

The brave pensioner grappled with two men when he walked in on them ransacking his home in June.

Mr Wademan said: “It is a shame they haven’t caught anybody for it. I have had trouble sleeping. It does go over in my head from time to time.”

Investigating officer Pc Carl Glossop said no arrests have been made and added: “Usually we get some information passed to use such as a name at least, but this time there was nothing so we had to file the case.”

He said the case will only be re-opened if key evidence is presented to police.
