WORLD Cup class action is guaranteed when Rotherham cops kick off against the council on Saturday – and refereed by Howard Webb!

The Mayor’s charity match, at Thomas Rotherham College will be a donations-only event, with all proceeds going to Rotherham Looked-After Children, Alzheimer’s Research and MacMillan Nurses. Tickets are limited to families and friends of those involved.

MEXBOROUGH Iron Man Tommy Joyce has raised more than £350 for Sheffield’s Weston Park Hospital in a marathon five-hour treadmill run at Wath Tesco.

DOG-lovers are urged to join the South Yorkshire English Springer Spaniel Rescue team on a charity countryside walk to raise vital funds.

The group – which has run up a £13,000 vets’ bill, saving 35 dogs so far this year – sets off from Wilshaw Village Hall, near Holmfirth, on Saturday at 11.30am. ARSONISTS torched a row of outhouses at Coniston Road on Mexborough’s Windhill Estate at 2.20am last Friday.

POLICE and firefighters have a new tactic to stop arsonists at Denaby Crags... by setting fire to them first!

Officers say there have been no deliberate fires at the Crags since they themselves started burning grass and leaves, in March.

In Rotherham, police and firefighters hope to prevent arson attacks by sending uniformed officers on bikes to prone areas to deter firestarters.
