Police are hunting a man who attempted to mug a mobility scooter user in Doncaster.

A 76-year-old woman was riding her scooter back home after withdrawing cash from a post office when a man tried to grab her bag.

Because the OAP had tied the bag to her scooter the would-be thief was unable to steal it.

He struck on Church Road, Denaby, on Thursday, September 17.

Police officers investigating the incident have released a CCTV image of a man they believe could hold vital information.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police investigating an attempted robbery of a 76-year-old woman in Doncaster have released CCTV footage.

“Officers are keen to speak to the man pictured as he may hold vital information in relation to the incident in Church Road, Denaby on Thursday, September 17.

“It is reported that the victim, who uses a mobility scooter, had visited the Denaby Main post office at about 9am to withdraw some money.

“The woman, from Denaby, had put the money in her handbag and tied the bag to her scooter before making her way home.

“The victim reports that she became aware of a man approaching her from behind before he made a failed attempt to take her bag from the scooter.

“No one was injured but the victim was left shaken by the incident.”
