Man in court charged with Eastwood murder

A 27-year old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Rotherham butcher Parvais Iqbal.

Emergency services were called to a shop on Grosvenor Road, Eastwood, on October 15, where the body of 40-year-old Mr Iqbal was discovered.

The dad-of-three, who was the owner of Bismillah Food Store and Halal butchers, Eastwood, had been stabbed. A 40-year-old Sheffield man was also found seriously injured at the scene.

Worshippers who had just attended a service at a nearby mosque made the grim discovery, and tried in vain to save Mr Iqbal’s life.

Naeem Mehmood, of Herringthorpe Valley Road, Rotherham, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court charged with murder and attempted murder on Friday.

He denied both charges and the case was adjourned to a further hearing next month.

Friends of the tragic shopkeeper - known locally as Parv - described him as a family man who was ‘courteous, kind and always smiling’.

Chief Supt Jason Harwin said at the time that the tragedy was a ‘truly shocking event’.”
