A driver has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after a car smashed through a Doncaster leverl crossing and into a police station car park.
Trains on the East Coast main line were halted after the incident in Station Road, Rossington, on Tuesday afternoon, just after 4pm.
South Yorkshire Police say a BMW estate collided with the level crossing on Station Road in Rossington, then left the road and hit two parked, unoccupied cars in Rossington police station car park, which is at the front of the building.
Three of the four level crossing barriers were seriously damaged and the road was closed for the rest of the night until new barriers could be erected.
The 19-year-old Rossington man driving the car was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and criminal damage and is currently being questioned.
He is reported to have sustained a neck injury and needed hospital treatment.
British Transport Police are also considering whether the suspect should be charged with an offence of endangering persons on the railway.
A spokesman for Network Rail said: “The police attended the site and closed the road while the new barriers were located and fitted.”
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call South Yorkshire Police 101 quoting incident number 700 of September 17.
