A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an attack which has left a dad fighting for his life.

The 21-year-old man remained in custody this morning being quizzed by detectives over the assault on Iain Eldridge in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Mr Eldridge, a dad-of-two, was in a critical condition in hospital. The 35-year-old from Auckley suffered a serious head injury in the unprovoked attack in Station Road, Bawtry, at around 12.40am on January 1.

Mr Eldridge, a gas engineer, and his girlfriend had just left he Penny Farthing pub when he was set upon.

No further details have yet been released about the man who has been arrested.

Revellers who were in Bawtry have been asked by police to look at photographs they may have taken on New Year’s Eve for possible clues regarding the assault.
