A man has been jailed for five years for raping a woman at her home in Doncaster.
David John Doherty, aged 48, of St James Street, Doncaster, pleaded guilty to rape at a hearing at Sheffield Crown Court.
His victim did not initially go to police following the attack at an address in the Hyde Park area in August, last year.
Police said she did not report it when it happened because she was scared of Doherty, who she knew.
The victim eventually found the courage to come forward and told officers about the incident in March this year.
Doherty was arrested and charged with rape.
He was jailed for five years at court on Wednesday, November 26 and must sign the sex offenders’ register for life.
Investigating officer DC Stephen Cartlidge said regardless of when a victim reports a rape, it will be investigated.
He said: “This case shows that regardless of when an offence took place, if a victim comes forward they will be taken seriously and we will investigate thoroughly.
“We have specially-trained officers in place who work with victims from the moment a rape is reported, gathering every piece of evidence in order to secure a conviction.”
