A TREASURED memorial to murdered schoolgirl Casey-Lyanne Kearney has been damaged by fire.

Teddies, pictures and messages left by family members on the tree where the 13-year-old collapsed in Elmfield Park in Bennetthorpe have been left charred by the blaze.

Casey, of Rossington, died after she was stabbed in the stomach outside the park in February.

John Willis, who came to Casey’s aid in the park said: “It’s really upsetting that this has happened, I think a more permanent memorial should be set up for Casey.”

A police spokesman said enquiries so far suggest the damage may be accidental. Anyone with information call police on 101 quoting incident number 473 of November 24.

Hannah Bonser, 26, of Cusworth House is serving a life sentence for Casey’s murder.
