A MAN is due to appear in court this morning charged with assaulting a father in an unprovoked attack that left him fighting for his life.

Paul Oakden, 21, from Kingswood Close, Bawtry has been charged with grievous bodily harm following the New year’s Day attack on 35-year-old Iain Eldridge who remains in a critical condition.

Oakden has been remanded in custody and due to appear at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Mr Eldridge from Auckley remains in a critical condition, suffering from a serve head injury in Royal Hallamshire Hospital, after the incident in the early hours of New Year’s Day on Station Road, Bawtry.
