THREE arrests have been made after a Doncaster jewellery and gun shop was held up by armed robbers this morning.
Detectives are on the scene at Sopers jewellers in Arksey Lane, Bentley, after the robbery took place at about 9am
South Yorkshire Police confirmed an “alleged robbery” had taken place but said it was unable to release further details at this time.
However, the force helicopter’s Twitter feed confirmed two people had been arrested at the scene and a third was apprehended with the help of the chopper.
Eyewitnesses in Bentley reported seeing a man wearing a balaclava running away and then being led back to a patrol car in handcuffs.
Resident David Sains, of Balfour Road saw a man running down the street wearing a balaclava just after 9am.
Kaye Tomlinson, 49, of Asquith Road added: “Sopers is a family business that’s been here for years. I was really surprised to see so many police here.”
A nearby shopkeeper, who didn’t want to be named, said: “It is worrying that a robbery like this has happened in this area.
“I didn’t see it happen myself but I have seen a lot of police officers around the area.”
