A family have been left heartbroken after their treasured pet Chihuahua was stolen from the garden while they were just feet away.
Little six-month-old Alvin was taken from Georgina Parker’s back garden in Briar Road, Armthorpe.
The 23-year-old has described the horrifying moment she discovered Alvin was missing.
She said: “It was about 6pm and my brother and partner were in the garden and I was in the kitchen with the back door open.
“My brother came in and said ‘is Alvin in here with you?’ I said he’d not come inside.
“I couldn’t believe it when we couldn’t find him anywhere, we were frantically searching for him.
“When we went onto the field behind the house a group of lads told us they had seen some boys put their hand through the fence and pull him out and walk off with Alvin.”
Georgina said the whole family, including her three-year-old daughter Lillia and seven-year-old son Brandon are distraught.
“We are all gutted, the children are so upset and just keep crying,” she added.
“He was a big part of our family, I just want to know if he’s safe.”
The family has been putting up posters around the neighbourhood in a bid to appeal for information on Alvin.
Georgina added: “We just can’t believe that someone would do something like this.
“We are all heartbroken. If anyone has any information on Alvin please get in touch, we just want him back.”
A police spokesman confirmed that the incident had been reported to officers at around 6.50pm on Thursday, March 13.
Anyone who has information about Alvin is asked to contact Georgina on 07500 530 585.
