Anger over loss of police enquiry point

A DECISION to close a police enquiry desk at Wombwell has proved unpopular.

Local councillors asked if the town’s police station enquiry desk could be run by civilians, following the swift decision to shut it on October 1.

Police chiefs have said the enquiry desk closures have been forced due to the substantial cost of running them, and depleted resources.

Coun Dick Wraith said that people “need a face sometimes instead of just a ‘phone”.
