Conisbrough’s Windmill Community Centre has been forced to close, leaving a number of organisations out of a home.
Among them are a mums’ and tots’ group, a pensioners’ club and a teenagers’ group.
Tony Sellars, who ran the Move project at the centre, said: “It is sad that this has happened, but it is just a sign of the times that the council is not funding these centres as we would like”.
Meanwhile, the future of Conisbrough Christmas market is in jeopardy, with Conisbrough Forward revealing they don’t have enough members to run the event.
The group have issued an urgent appeal for more volunteers before they pull the plug on this year’s festivities.
Group secretary, Carol Sellars, said: “Although the few remaining members are enthusiastic in their aim of bringing people into Conisbrough to spend their money, we can’t manage to do large events such as the Christmas market, without more people”.
