POPULAR comedian Steve Womack will be performing at the Big Launch event in Doncaster’s Sir Nigel Gresley Square on Sunday.

The former milk monitor from Edlington Comprehensive School, who also performs his own songs as part of his routine, will be providing the entertainment the free show to mark the opening of the square.

Earlier in the week an eight metre tall £60,000 statue was installed in the square ahead of the celebration event from 1pm to 5pm.

Mayor of Doncaster, Peter Davies, said: “This is a real coup. Steve is a superb and well known entertainer born and bred in Doncaster.

“The whole event is going to be a cracking affair and I can’t wait for the Jubilee celebrations to begin.”

Free parking will be available on the day in the recently refurbished Civic Quarter Car Park.

The new square is part of the first phase of the £300million Civic and Cultural Quarter project being delivered by Doncaster Council with Muse Developments.
