Column: All I want is you (and a bit of your fortune)

She strode out of the restaurant in an outfit that would make a stripper blush, and with what can only be described as shoelaces covering both of her ample assets. Poor old Mariah Carey flung back her bouncy hair and greeted the paparazzi with a megawatt smile. For the first time in years, she was relevant and in the news again. But it wasn’t for a new song, or her god-awful screechy voice, but because she's split from her multi-millionaire fiancé. However, before your heart bleeds, remember, this is a woman still wearing a reported $10 million engagement ring on her finger. Mariah is said to have split from partner James Packer following a dramatic fight last month when they were holidaying in Greece. There's various speculation and rumour as to what went on, but it resulted in love’s old dream splitting soon after. The singer, made famous by the song ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’, proved she actually wanted a whole lot more when she reportedly demanded a payoff of $50 million. Nice work, if you can get it. But Mariah, who was once a waitress, proved she’s a smart cookie because it’s reported that she also wants to keep her engagement ring too. Now, I know she must be devastated, but has the woman no class? What is it with these divas who feel the world (and ex-partner) owe them a living? Have they no shame? Newspaper reports state Mariah believes Packer owes her after she uprooted both her children from New York to Los Angeles so that he could be closer to his own children. Well, I’m sorry, but as brilliant chat show granny, Mrs Merton, once famously asked: What did she see in the multi-millionaire?

Mariah reportedly said her intended made ‘financial promises’ to her during their romance, which she now wants him to fulfil. But doesn’t twice-divorced Mariah realise at the ripe old age of 46, that sometimes people make promises they don't keep? Thankfully, the breakup doesn’t seem to have hit her too hard because she was still out partying with her bra on full display in a stringy top that seemed to have the front panel missing. As for James Packer, given Mariah’s reported diva demands, I’d say he had a lucky escape. Call me old-fashioned, but can someone tell me why this woman feels entitled to $50 million just for being engaged to someone? If that’s the case, maybe it’s time for us all to hunt down our exes and demand money for our ‘heartbreak’. Mariah, who isn’t short of a bob or two herself, is said to be worth a cool $500 million, so why she feels she needs more money, I do not know. She's certainly not a poor, little victim. She must have an iron rod running through her to have made it in the most cut-throat industry known to man or diva.
