Messingham Juniors 1 Epworth Colts 2
THIS under-11 clash in the President’s Cup saw the Isle side triumph against a team which plays in a division higher than the Colts.
The visitors started brightly with Callum Marsh and Kyle Blackburn causing their hosts problems before Messingham settled and created a few chances of their own.
A tense affair with both sides looking to attack, the game went from end to end and late in the first half Blackburn beat the home defence and rounded the keeper to make it 1-0 to the Colts.
Messingham came back strongly but the back four of Luke Bradley, Aiden Woodcock, Tom Kolcombe and Charlie Coggon held out to half time.
After the break the Colts again started brightly but against the run of play Messingham equalised midway through the half.
The hosts then went in search of a winner but with the game looking set for extra time, a speculative long range effort from Colts substitute Mathew West bobbled past the keeper to edge the Colts into a 2-1 lead.
Messingham pushed hard for a second equaliser but with the visitors repulsing a late free kick on the edge of the area, Epworth advanced to the next round.
Man of match: Tom Kolcombe.
