DONCASTER Rovers are investigating online abuse sent to the club’s former striker Billy Sharp about his dead son.
Sharp, now playing upfront for Southampton following a January transfer from the Rovers, has responded to a collection of posts from a single account on Twitter referring to his baby Luey Jacob who died aged two-days-old at the end of last year.
The messages sent to the forward by a ‘tweeter’ called Chris Boyd caused uproar on the social networking site. Several people have posted updates saying that the comments had been reported.
Sharp replied to the messages today, tweeting: “shallow little boy hope ur proud of urself.”
Rovers have released a statement on the club’s official website stating: “Doncaster Rovers Football Club are aware of the twitter feed from a fan called Chris Boyd.
“We are investigating the matter at the moment and will take appropriate action.
“The club will not tolerate the misuse of social media or obscene language in any way.”
