DONCASTER’S civic mayor had the chance to see the work undertaken by one of her chosen good causes.

Coun Christine Mills was invited to ride in the Firefly Express service alongside the cancer organisation’s founder Denise Dunn.

Throughout the day the minibus service took cancer patients and their families to and from hospital appointments at Sheffield’s Weston Park Hospital.

The organisation is one of Coun Mills’ chosen causes to raise money for which she announced after she was elected into her civic duties earlier this year.

Denise said: “Coun Mills was able to see how our service works and the vital work undertaken to ensure that cancer patients and their families can travel free of charge and stress-free for life-saving cancer treatment to Weston Park Hospital.

“The patients on the express were pleased and delighted to meet the civic mayor and share with her their experiences of the cancer journey.

“Many told her that without the help of Firefly they would simply not have been able to get to the hospital.”

Coun Mills also had a tour of Weston Park’s radiotherapy department.
