A classy chippie in Belton is celebrating being ‘batter’ than the rest after being named by our readers as the best in the Isle.

Plaice 2 Be has been named as The Epworth Bells & Crowle Advertiser Chip Shop of the Year – and co-owners, Gurd and Nim Mattu, know their ‘plaice’ at the top table is thanks to their loyal customers who voted them number one.

Launch of the competition coincided with the launch of Fish and Chip week on February 17 and readers have been voting for their champion chippie since that date.

This was a great opportunity for the mighty fish fryers and put them under the spotlight and showed how much people appreciated their mouth-watering takeaway treats.

Plaice 2 Be serves up succulent chips and crispy battered fish daily and Nim said he was pleased customers felt they deserved to scale the dizzy heights to the top of the charts.

Nim said: “It’s absolutely fantastic news to know that customers feel we serve up the best fish and chips in the area. We were up against some stiff competition, so I feel great that we have been voted the area’s best.”

Nim, 39, speaking from the chippie in King Edward Street, added: “The family has been in the area for the past 18 years, but the chippie has been here for only 12 months, and we’ve never won anything like this. I would like to thank everyone who voted for us.”
